Researchers and industrial operators across Europe have united around the project anticancer MIRACLE (Magnetic isolation and molecular analysis of single disseminated and circulating tumor cells on chip). The initiative aims to develop an LOC (the ab-on-a-chip) fully automated and integrated approach for the detection and characterization of circulating tumor cells and diffuse, CTC and DTC.
The new LOC will enable a diagnosis quicker and more economically efficient. The researchers have so far concentrated their efforts on developing cancer treatments based on the biology of the primary tumor, but the problem is the metastasis .
In some cases, cancer cells survive despite the use of treatments such as chemotherapy. These cells hidden, beyond the radar of the common tests and thus remain undetected, can travel through the bloodstream and reach different sites developing met static disease.
